With our camping season under evaluation, we too are thinking and discussing with our partnerships about new ways of camping, training and providing meaningful support. CREER is an organization that has partnered with Star Rock Ministries to provide a summer day camp experience to disadvantaged youth through Emerald Cove Day Camp. CREER means to believe: a belief founded in helping the children and families of the Los Rios District of San Juan Capistrano, CA. CREER is more than just the homework club, after-school facility, and summer program. It is a vital source of information, mentoring, resources, and educational programs for the most vulnerable members of our SJC community.
However, this pandemic has forced CREER to be creative and resourceful in realigning goals and programs. Right now, most of the Los Rios families live in a constant storm trying to decide whether to put food on the table, make the rent or pay the bills. In the last 5 weeks, CREER has partnered with OCC Food Recovery Pantry to distribute approximately 7,040 boxes of food and 6 pallets of diapers. The COVID-19 crisis has proven what most economists say: many families are two paychecks away from financial ruin. Now we know that the families of the Los Rios District are living in it every day.
Through this crisis, CREER believes they will break through stronger as a community. As Angeles Ceballos (Executive Director) notes, "we believe in our community and the good in people's hearts. At CREER, we witness the gratitude in people's hearts every day. We believe operating out of our deep love for this community and supporting them through every season of life!"
