During this month of love, Star Rock Ministries is celebrating the numerous friendships and mentorships that have grown through the ministry of camp. One of Star Rock Ministries' partnerships is UWYI's Manhood Camp.This unique urban camp is designed for at-risk, teen boys throughout the country. The mission is to develop faith, self-worth, practical skills and mentorships in teenage boys who have often experienced deep father wounds.
Meet Will and Cyran. Will is a pastor working with UYWI in Houston. He helped launch Manhood Camp in the Houston area that has served over 150 boys and equipped 30 urban directors and volunteers. One of Will's mentees is Cyran, a 19 year old boy from the fifth ward of East Houston. Will has been walking with Cyran for the majority of his life. Will writes:
"I have known Cyran since elementary school. I was there when his parents were married and I was there walking him through the tough times of growing up in a violent neighborhood, peer challenges and his parent's divorce. But it was that first night at Manhood Camp in 2018 when the ice truly broke and the heart of Cyran was softened. He was ready for what Jesus needed to do in his heart and began a reconciling journey with his birth father."
Cyran and Will's relationship continues to grow and expand on the experiences of Manhood Camp. Because of Will's investment in his life, Cyran is pursuing a degree at a Houston community college, active in his local church, and continues to dream more about what his life can be.
