Join us as we close out the year in celebrating another significant narrative that shows how SRM empowers joy, connection, and "blooming" through the gift of camp. "I immediately saw a change in Kaylee. She is a shy kid; she has a hard time expressing herself. But the second she returned home, she was smiling, blooming with joy and couldn't stop talking about her experiences at camp. She was so happy. That happiness...it's amazing to see such change in her! I'm so grateful that she was able to have the opportunity to attend camp. I'm just really, really grateful to see that change in her for the better. She's someone who keeps so much to herself. She's still talking about the Star Rock Camp. The banana boat, the shooting stars, the relationships she built." Volunteer leader-Luz (UnidosOC) In an SRM designed camp environment, I wonder if Kaylee, along with hundreds of other campers, find their world expanding? A place to experience a Star Rock campfire, smell the ponderosa pine, and notice the sky change from light blue to indigo to polka dot black. Did she find a community to share her introverted thoughts with an attentive cabin and counselor who could remind her of her true identity? A place she could safely step out and “bloom” into the young woman God has always intended her to be. In a beautiful way, Luz's telling of Kaylee’s changed life describes what God has been hinting at all along. God keeps loving and creating things in us from the inside out. We are forever growing, changing, and experiencing love through new opportunities. Kaylee’s story does not remain at camp- her story travels home and continues to grow alongside a caring UnidosOC community nestled in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
